Feather boas - did you know?
- Feather boas are traditionally made from various types of feathers: marabou, chandelle, ostrich or turkey.
- The larger, showgirl-type boas are normally made of thousands of long thin ostrich feathers.
- Feather boas have been documented for use as an adornment since 1820, but they may have been worn as early as the 17th century
- Some historic eras where feather boas were in style include: the late Victorian and Edwardian era, the 1920's, the 1970's during the glam rock and the disco music eras, which makes them very popular for theme and fancy-dress parties.
